I’m getting the keys to my first property on Monday…I won’t be moving in for a while as need to do painting, flooring, buy furniture etc but the first step is painting the house. I’ve never had to buy paint before so I’m a bit clueless on what to get I know I want to go for a grey colour does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable/reliable paint brand? I’d hate to spend £30 on a pot of paint for it to be bad quality I’ve seen cheap paints from wilko (it’s their own brand) are they any good?

This has been the best paint we’ve ever bought. Used it for the first time recently.
We are on our 3rd house so have done lots of pain over the years and I have to say the coverage of this has been amazing. A bit more expensive, but well worth it, as a coverage with 2 coats was better than with 3 x coats of Dulux ‘once’ paint.
Congratulations on your new home.

If you have a Brewers near you, their own brand Albany is very good. It’s a good price for a good quality paint.

Its a trade retailer, usually found on industrial estates, but you don’t need to be trade.

They have a nice traditional paint chart. I like to buy the coverMatt emulsion. It doesn’t have the vinyl in it and gives a nice Matt finish, but is not so washable. It’s also recommended for newly plastered walls.

I like it for coverage more than Farrow and Ball, but there are some F&B colours you can’t recreate.

my favourite brushes are Harris. You can pick these up cheaper in places likes Wickes or The Range.

Best of luck, hope you have fun with it.

Cheap paint is a false economy. Definitely go straight for the good stuff. I've always got on fine with Dulux and Valspar Premium. Usually get F&B colour matched in a Valspar to get the best colours
