Extension - where do you start??

I'm looking to add a utility room onto the side of my house. I have no idea where you start? Do you just get builders to come and quote you? I've looked online and it gives rough estimates dependent on how big it is. Also seen that if it's a certain size then you don't need planning permission. Never done anything like this before.

Have you thought about using a design and build firm versus going straight to a builder?

They will draw up plans, get planning permission etc - for a cost of course! There are pros and cons of using them vs the traditional route of going straight to a builder, but you might find they suit your circumstances.
