New exterior door

Hello has anyone recently had new external doors fitted? I've had several quotes and they're more than expected plus have raised other issues -
Is it worth paying more for composite than coloured upvc? Is composite seen as better than wood?.
Any thoughts /advice gratefully received

In the same position. Just had a much larger quote than expected for a composite front door and upvc back door. Have just contacted another company for a comparison quote.

I've had 5 quotes , all similar 1600-1800.
Seeing a local joiner next week.
Are you having a upvc back door @Undervaluedandsad to keep costs down?

Our composite quote was £2340 including fitting. Upvc door needs a cat flap so we don’t want to spend more than we need to on it.

HOW much?!
925, fitted at the end of last year by an independant guy. The bigger companies were twice that.

Never looked at wood, as we have a newish house, but I understand they last longer, but need more maintenance than pvc/composite.

We had a coloured UPVC door fitted last year around £800 but honestly it wasn’t the best quality. We just needed a replacement door quickly and were budget limited.
we are about to move into a new house which has a wooden front door but will need replacing as it’s got a cat flap and we don’t have cats. Will look at wooden doors or composite depending on price but expecting to pay more than our last door

@ChristmasCakeAndStilton yes I think independent is the way to go
Thanks for the comments, will pursue a composite I think

We ordered with a local independent in November and it was 1k for upvc back door (includes fitting of a cat flap) plus 2.8k for a lovely Rockdoor with two sidelights. The sidelights added about 1k to the price.
We found the Rockdoor wasn’t much more expensive than other brands but far superior in build quality, security and energy efficiency.
