Gas engineer (Surrey Plumbers Ltd (based in Chessington) subcontracted by EON to install a new boiler exaggerated a potential issue into an issue to do unnecessary work for more money. This would result in taking out our brand new ground floor to fit new bigger diameter gas pipes to the boiler.
EON pulled out and subcontractor offered to do the work for an additional price (£3000 + 600). At the time I accepted and foolishly fully paid in advance. This was after delays after delays with winter coming and with 1 year old DS.
Still further delays and excuses. The boiler was finally installed and working but still temporarily and illegally using thinner pipes in the ground floor. I am still waiting…
Given the gas engineer is so relaxed on not having to replace the gas pipe ASAP questioned whether the pipes were really needed. So I recently paid an independent gas engineer to check and find out this additional work was BS!!!
I am absolutely furious with this disgustingly deceitful engineer but also with EON for using him. Are there no vetting??? The independent engineer noted he hasn't even done safety checks after installation which is a legal requirement.
It's now been a month since the boiler was installed. The reason I haven't been chasing the gas engineer is that "his mother has passed away". I don't believe him but it's too sensitive to gamble.
The plan is to write him a polite letter to say that an independent gas engineer has confirmed the gas pressure to be acceptable. And therefore would like to get a refund of the difference between EONs price and his price. Also, to finish off the work which has made the house unsafe.
If he doesn’t cooperate then i will report him to the Gas Safety Register as recommended by the independent engineer.
I will also demand compensation from EON for introducing this engineer that has caused so much pain.
Any thoughts?
