Any ideas on these costs (carpeting and bathroom)

Hi all, I've a very limited budget to get one of two jobs done in my house.

Job 1 - getting my stairs and upstairs landing carpeted. I know it depends on carpet but something 80/20 mix and nothing too fancy.

Job 2 - Bathroom floor tiled - it's currently wooden floorboards. Again something mid range and would prefer tiles to lino. Also thinking about getting underfloor heating but not sure it's possible.

Plan attached and in SE.

Thank you

We have had a quote for £800 for our stairs and upstairs landing. I could cry at that! That isn't for a fancy carpet either. But does include underlay, fitting etc.....

Tiling a bathroom isn't a huge job. Adding in underfloor heating will bump it up a lot and also cost a lot in energy bills.

Thank you - it is expensive isn't it? But I did think it probably would be about that. Is this through one of the large carpet places or somewhere local (we have both nearby).

We are getting new carpet for a double bedroom and stairs/landing (including underlay). This is costing us over £1000 and fitting is extra.

Try karndean (posh Lino tiles) for the floor. I think about £60 per square meter but can’t remember. They feel warm underfoot so no need for underfloor heating.
Stairs under £1000 per floor

Should add this is via a local company and you pay the carpet fitter directly on the day.

Thank you - all really helpful

We've been quoted about £950 for stairs and fairly big landing, which includes underlay at £7, carpet at £23 and all door bars etc. In central Scotland, company recommended by our hard flooring fitter (who is also very decently priced and excellent work!).

Bathroom flooring - we are having SPC rather than tiles and I don't have a full breakdown of this yet but was previously quoted about £500 for a bathroom floor approx 5m squared.

Would really recommend SPC, it looks great, feels temperate (rather than freezing, like the tiled floor in our last place) and is quite water resistant (as in can leave a spill for days and it won't cause damage to the floor, unlike laminate).

Should say those quotes also include fitting as well as materials. Fitting for the stairs/landing is £160 of the £950.

I found our hard flooring fitter on Facebook - he posts pictures of his work regularly and has so many excellent and recent reviews, and he was very quick to respond and give quotes - so lucky to find such a good tradesman, just wish he did other types of job as I'd happily have him on call for anything else we need!

We did go to Tapi Carpets and the quote for just downstairs was more than this chap is charging for the whole house, barring the stairs/landing. Similar flooring type. I've been recommending him to everyone 😂
