How much for a uPVC door?

I'm a new homeowner and I have no idea how much property things cost. If you've had a new door (basic uPVC) installed in the last few years, how much did you pay for the door plus installation?

I paid £1100 for a front door with side panel. 3 years ago. Think it was with Safestyle. Looked at composite but decided that I couldn't afford it. And UPVC had done the job perfectly well for years.

I paid about 1500 for a high quality composite a few years ago.

Prices for this sort of stuff have increased rapidly recently. It would not surprise me if it were double now.

I would think carefully about going for the cheapest bog standard quality UPVC.

Really depends on the nature of the area you are in (high crime) and how much the house is occupied. If you are away a lot I would go for high security door (low glass with top quality locks - these will set you back £100 each for a lock), but doors like this are pretty much impregnable.

Thanks both. I had a quote for £1,700 which shocked me, but sounds like it's in the right ballpark. It's a good quality one but I left off all the aesthetic extras like nice colours and fancy designs.

I used to work at a window and door company - ask for more discount. Do not be afraid to ask. Also they are all sales targeted so wait until near the month end they will probably give you more discount to close the sale.

£1700 is quite expensive.

Composite door, £925 fully installed.
The big companies were nearly twice that, but the local independent guys were all in that range.

I wanted a new back door and I got one from Freecycle and got joiner to put it in. It is a decent quality double glazed composite door.

Try Gumtree or Freecycle.

I paid £1800 last spring for a new front door and 2 side windows with top openings so 4 separate windows in total.

Had our wooden back door replaced with a really good quality rosewood uPVC with half window.

Cost £800 all in but we are in the North Midlands and used a small, local double glazing company.
