Moving for schools, when is best?

Have one DC in yr1 and are contemplating moving areas for secondaries. Currently debating whether it's better to move house/schools as early as possible or leave it till late primary. We are hoping to move out of London but got a bit spooked by the current hiatus when it comes to mortgages. If you moved areas and schools would you recommend doing it as soon as possible or is late primary still ok ?

It’s part of the reason we’re looking now (DC similar ages), though tbf we want another study as well now we’re both permanently wfh.

Looking now means we can take more time to be picky about what we’re trying to get rather than being forced into compromising because an application deadline is looming. It also means that while we won’t move primary schools, it’s not a feeder in the area we’re looking in, so DC have more chance to start getting to know other kids through Cubs etc.

If it doesn’t work out now, we’ll come back to it later.

Friends with slightly older DC did exactly the same thing at the same stage and it’s working out for them.
