Help help help!!
we moved into our house 6 months ago; the house was a bit neglected but we have had some work done (more still to do). Anyway I’ve noticed our architraves and bannister absolutely stink…like an almost faggy but more musty smell. They’ve been professionally painted and I’ve also repainted them again - they still stink! I know the answer would be to replace them but we can’t afford that at the moment, what could be causing the stink and how do I combat it? I don’t think the previous owners smoked (not at the time we bought it anyway, although he had lived here since the 70s so probably has done at some point), but I think the stink is more musty.

the problem with cigarettes is they leave a residue on everything.I heard before painting your supposed to wash all surfaces with sugar soap ,that includes before putting any carpets down.I personally dont think your going to be able to remove the smell but maybe someone else has a better plan
