Help! Removing scratches marble hearth

My husband has very helpfully badly scored our cream marble hearth whilst removing a cast iron stove. Any advice on how to repair it? 😩

I'd imagine as it isn't a crack but a surface scratch that sanding it down with suitable sanding surface would be needed, but you couldn't do a patch so you'd have to do the whole surface.

Could you contact a local firm who do headstones and see if they can help, they have to polish marble up all the time.
