Artex

RudolphTheGreat · 01/01/2023 12:14

Looks like artex to me

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/01/2023 12:16

Artex. It's probably got asbestos in it so get proper advice if you're planning to do anything to it.

Sparklefoof · 01/01/2023 12:16

Every room in our house was like that growing up. Artex!

WhatsitWiggle · 01/01/2023 12:17

Artex

I was quoted £600 to plaster my living room and 3 bedrooms to get rid of it (kitchen and bathroom already done). Decided I could live with it after all!

Fizzadora · 01/01/2023 12:22

It looks like artex but it may not have asbestos if it was done after the mid 80's.
You can have it skimmed over as long as they don't scrape or sand it beforehand. It's only dangerous if it's disturbed.
If you want to get rid of it you will need specialists.
You can just leave it alone and it will be fine.

Sam636 · 01/01/2023 12:30

I would just like it to be skimmed over by a plasterer. The house was built 1989 so I guess there could be artex in it.

It says not to plaster over woodchip so wanted to get peoples thoughts on what it actually is!

It looks like artex but even if it were woodchip that just comes off with a wallpaper stripper and then you could plaster.

Persipan · 01/01/2023 14:42

It's not woodchip, so no need to worry about plastering over it. Go forth and skim!

claireb7rg · 01/01/2023 14:54

It's artex. We had ours plastered over, the plasterer said if it was pre 2000 it's likely got asbestos in, (Our house was built in 2000) so best to leave it hence plastering over it
