Fence ownership

Lived in our house for nearly 30 years and along with our neighbours (no. 1 and 3) have always erected and maintained left sided fences. We are no. 5 and no.7 are querying ownership (all detached houses) as they need to do major fence repairs.
We have now checked our deeds and discovered variations due to the properties being built over a 15 year period. No. 7 has the 'T' on right side and deeds are dated 1914. Ours also show the T on the right dated 1924. However, No 1 dated 1934 shows all 4 properties with Ts on the left. No. 3 can't access their deeds
Has anyone experience of this? Do the later deeds trump earlier deeds or do we have to follow our own deeds although dated earlier?

I am not an expert but I would say you follow the most recent deeds you know about. Each date supercedes the other.

But I would take legal advice as to whether someone else's more recent deeds can in fact legally supercede someone else's. Or if both parties must have been compliant at the time to produce the new deeds. So someone allowed the new deeds in the past so you have to abide by them.

Even if you are responsible for a fence, nobody can make you build or repair one

Though if you have goats, tigers etc, you have go keep them from causing damage to neighbours property.

If your plan shows you are responsible for the right hand side, I don't see that anything on somebody else's plan is relevant.
