Neighbours Landlord Not Taking Action With Rat Infestation

Moved into our first house 8 weeks ago and it became apparent rats are getting into our loft and cavity walls. I am very phobic of them and not been sleeping well as a result.

We also discovered a bait box i the garden and pest control found old traps in the loft.
pest control think the rats are visiting our house but not nesting, they have taken far more bait in the garden than in the loft.

i found out that the next row of houses , a row of 4 1930s terraces have had a rat problem for at least the last 6 months and they run through all their lofts. Apparently all their landlord has done is occasionally put bait down but not made further investigation to drains etc,

I am hoping that our pest control will be able to block all the entry points to the house, but that doesn’t solve the garden problem.

Do you think I should report the landlord to. Environmental health? Or contact him directly? I should say all his tenants have clean neat gardens with no rubbish laying about.

I have read about terrier teams on mums net before but no idea how you would find one, we are suburban not rural.

in most urban and suburban locations in the UK, you will never be able to get rid of rats from the garden. and you can't complain about the landlord of houses that are a whole row away, if their own tenants are fine and the properties are clean.

make your own home as secure as possible, block up any rat entry points with wire wool and keep the bait in your own garden. things will settle down and be fine.

Complain to environmental health.

pest control came out yesterday and blocked the entry points ,they were very thorough. More bait put down in the garden too.

didnt hear them last night, so 🤞.
I do think it is appalling that my neighbours have had to out up with it for 6 months.
