British Gas Homeserve Contract Useless

Just a vent really.
I pay £30 a month for a contract with British gas to cover repairs to all plumbing, heating etc.
We've had no heating for 3 weeks due to a plumbing fault. They were waiting for a part apparently. The guy fixed that yesterday.
In fixing the plumbing he buggered the boiler so now I have no heating or hot water. He wasn't Gas safe certified so couldn't fix it.
I spoke to British Gas and they promised to send someone today - no sign. Checked website - appointment booked for 17th January. I'm going to have to ring round tomorow to try to find someone to do an emergency call out.
I am beyond annoyed.

Yep we pay for the same and i feel like they fix one problem and create five more! Currently waiting for them to come out for a fourth time, as in fixing a part in my boiler it now comes on when I flush my toilet or put the cold water on, am going round in circles and am so frustrated, the problem is I can’t afford a plumber to come and sort it all so need to go through British Gas! They were supposed to come yesterday but I cancelled as I didn’t want them touching my boiler this close to Christmas, I have no faith in them at all!

We pay a local company £7.99 pm and that covers annual service. They also provided and installed new boiler in 2014, 10 year guarantee.

We had an issue with one radiator, rang them Monday, they came Wednesday, fixed the radiator issue, no charge.

Ditch BG. Get a local company that's been going at least 5 years and has good feedback. I asked on Facebook local group for recommendations.

I would except they charge as much to get out of the contract as it costs to let it run. The wait for parts ran across the renewal date so really annoyed.

I was with BG for years...2-3 years ago I finally snapped as their service was so utterly shite. 3 weeks for a breakdown appointment. New boiler and 8 year warranty and use a local engineer who comes out same day. Saved a fortune.

Even the BG gas engineer said I was doing the right thing, even though his job depends on it...apparently their engineers all left after BG shafted their pay, pensions and conditions

I used to be with BG & had Homeserve. They were absolutely shite so switched to a diffuser provider and found a local man to service the boiler/ deal with problems. He only ever takes a couple of days to respond to a problem.

Useless and sub out all the work...friend had 7 visits to fit one radiator and then it leaked.....!!

Total rip off my dad had a contract - he was 86 and classed as a priority client - could never come out for ages - he ended up using local plumbers who could come out like a drop of a hat. He thought he was buying peace of mind - no dad you were ripped off.

I'm going to switch as soon as mines up for renewal too. They used to be really good and come out straight away but they've been shite for years really. Don't know why I've put up with them so long really 😕

RidingMyBike · 25/12/2022 19:26

They've been dreadful for years. I used to have Homeserve but then swopped to self-insuring, so save the same amount previously spent on BG into a regular savings account. So have the money building up to pay for any repairs. Plus a reliable local company able to come out quickly.

Ashamed to say I used to work for this shower of shit company when I was desperate for a job. Treated staff like crap, favoritism was rife and the poor customers were treated with utter contempt by some of the subcontractors who were coming out to them. I ended up leaving for the sake of my mental health. I would never have a home emergency cover like this, we are fortunate to have a local neighbourhood group where we share local recommendations for these sorts of works.
