I'm moving house TODAY

Just that really. I'm dealing with the stress from afar because I brought the kids to stay at my parents and left DH to deal with the movers so I want constant updates but also trying not to keep calling 😭

Once the money goes through I'm going to drive to the new house to be there for the removal guys whilst DH does final checks etc at the old house and my parents are bringing the little ones to the new house tonight!

No point to this thread - just sharing.

I hope it all goes well. Sounds like you have a good plan. Presumably you're not too far away if you're driving over once the money has transferred? Who's collecting the keys from the estate agent?

Persipan · 22/12/2022 07:55

Hope it all goes really well for you!

Frostine · 22/12/2022 07:56

Congratulations ( well congratulations once you are all sorted ! ) Don't put too much pressure on yourselves to get it perfect for Christmas . Get a takeaway for tonight .
Make up the kids rooms first and encourage an early night.

Me, I'm about an hour away and the new house is about an hour away from the old one so I'm hoping it all works out that I will get there first. I'm going to contact the solicitor later to get an eta but broadly planning to leave here at 11 to get to the estate agent for noon and if I have to wait because the money hasn't gone through yet then that's fine (new house is empty so no issues there). DH just text to say removals have started!!

Yes that's the plan, chippy tea tonight and kids beds sorted. Tomorrow I will do a desperate Christmas shop and luckily we aren't fussy so as long as I find something to roast and some pigs in blankets we will be fine. Hoping to get pre-made stuff in foil trays for Christmas Day for this year only!

Where you are in the chain affects the timing dramatically, we had no chain (had moved temporarily into rented) and had the keys at 10.20am ... we actually were at work not expecting it to be in the morning! (Rental had 6 days left on it so moved 3 days later)

Outnumbered99 · 22/12/2022 10:08

Good luck hoping for a smooth day for you today OP!

BringMeTea · 22/12/2022 11:00

Bon chance Rodney!

ScroogeMcDuckling · 22/12/2022 11:00

Our first house completed the 23rd December.

one of the most memorable christmases ever, and cos we’re painting and went to parents in law for Christmas Day, we had Boxing Day as our Christmas Day, and all the Christmas Day stuff had been reduced to 10p in the Coop.

I tried to keep it a secret, but had to relent when everybody thought I’d spent a fortune.

I love a 10p Turkey crown!!!

ScroogeMcDuckling · 22/12/2022 11:01

By the way, wishing you and yours a wonderful new chapter in your new home xxxx

boboshmobo · 22/12/2022 11:03

Congratulations! Hope the rest of the move goes as smoothly!

Pixiedust1234 · 22/12/2022 14:24

Congratulations OP, I hope you enjoy your new house!

I moved into this house on the 22nd December too. Literally. Me and DH hired a van and did our own removals and I was coming down with the flu. Muscle aches, shivers and sweats before I had even picked up one box 🙄

BlueMongoose · 22/12/2022 16:40

As a kid, when we moved, I was sent to school from one house and had to go home to the new one! Some of the local kids on the new street came out to look for me to make sure I didn't get lost and to welcome me as I came 'home' for the first time, which was great. It was probably their parents' idea, but it was really nice for me.

Greengr · 22/12/2022 20:31

🎉🍾best of luck in your new home, it's a tough time to move 🎄🎄
