Artex / asbestos

Hi all

does anyone own a house with artex ceilings that may contain asbestos? We are buying a house and the ceilings look like they have artex on them. It is a 1930s house so I know this means there’s a risk of asbestos. Is this an issue do you think? Do I need to worry and get rid of it? I have 2 young children and this would be our forever home

Do not worry. It’s perfectly safe if you don’t disturb it.
Are the ceilings bowed and cracked? If so, could be the old lathe ceiling and at sometime it will need replacing. Ask the vendor if they are plasterboard board. That said, could be old ceilings with plasterboard screwed on top, which is what you could do yourself if it’s the old ceilings still.

As long as it’s in good condition then it isn’t a concern. If you don’t like it you can have a layer of plaster skimmed over the top to hide it.
