Radon

We live in a high radon area. We haven't had the house tested yet but probably will do next year. Had anyone done this and had a high reading come back? What did you do? I read about it when we first moved and don't worry normally because we have the windows open a lot. Recently though it's been so cold, I've kept them shut and I'm getting fed anxious about radon. I'm trying to be rational...huge parts of the world are in high radon areas. But I am conscious of it and maybe need another plan other than...keep the windows open for as much time as possible.

Was it expensive to sort? What does it involve?

If it bothers you that much you can do this

Our levels are high (~250 in the winter when we have the windows closed) and have been since we moved in 10 years ago. Have just about managed to convince my partner to get a positive ventilation system in the loft to bring the levels down in winter (they aren’t a problem at all in summer). From what I’ve read they’re about £1-£2k to buy and have installed. We’ve done the government test and also have an Airthings monitor that gives us an hourly, daily and 3 monthly average.

I need to look into this too - it came up on my survey as needing attention soon. I'm in Cornwall so there's granite everywhere and I think most of the county is a high radon area!

It’s quite straightforward to do the monitoring - you can order the kit online:

Remedial measures and ballpark costs (although given rising costs over the last few years I’d probably up these)
