Looking into these as bifolds seem silly given that they'll be shut most of the year. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Make sure you have good catches for them. Ours caught in strong wind. Can’t just replace hinge like wooden doors, whole unit had to be replaced £££

We have a small set of origin aluminium doors, we have another set of wider ones still to do. Had them in about 2 years now with no problems at all ,, I’m really impressed with the handle/ locking mechanism it feels really solid in use and is effortless to use.

There isn't much difference to be honest apart from the price - at the end of the day, they both have an access door for winter. Bifolds were more expensive than French. We went for uPVC: www.vividdoors.co.uk/patio-doors/french-patio-doors/climadoor-upvc-french-doors-grey-out-white-in

Grey on the outside and white on the inside. No issues on the doors, although the guy who fitted them didn't fit them square first time around 🙄

Aluminium would be a good shout.. more of a jump up in price.

Cold. We have aluminium French doors and they’re much colder than the upvc ones we have upstairs

Very cold and conduct heat straight outside. I wouldn’t get aluminium.

I wouldn't have them again. Visually you can't really tell they're aluminium until you get close up anyway. My living room is much colder since we changed to aluminium french doors and hardwood floors. Upvc and carpet is much more UK friendly. Don't even get me started on the wooden front door I insisted on..

I agree with pp, aluminium are much colder than UPVC.

Old aluminium windows/ doors were crap , modern ones are much better and the good ones will have a thermal break built into them.

Aluminium do not have to be colder, just make sure they have a thermal break.

They’re still a lot colder than upvc. I have three sets of new aluminium French doors/bifolds. They were not cheap and are a known brand. They are noticeably colder than our old upvc.

Look at Warmcore. uPVC wrapped in aluminium.
