I know this is a how long is a piece of string questions, but any recent experience appreciated!

Just us and vendors in the chain. Need to get a mortgage. Imagine Christmas will slow things down too.

Ours was apparently extremely quick. We went on market 9th September and we complete tomorrow 9th December. So three months exactly with 3 in chain and our buyer gazundering us which added a week or so on the timeline.

We’re selling our flat to a first time buyer (we’re not buying again immediately). Due to exchange on Monday, almost 3 months since we accepted the offer

Honeybirds87 · 10/12/2022 06:41

Fucking ages for us. No chain, offer accepted in June, complete next week (hopefully!)

OneDetectorist · 10/12/2022 06:44

No chain, offer accepted October, due to exchange and complete in January, so 3 months.

It would have been 2 months but enquiries held things up 1 month.

MinnieMountain · 10/12/2022 09:18

The industry average is 16 weeks from instructions to exchange at the moment.

RM2013 · 10/12/2022 09:23

3 in chain and our purchase offer was accepted Aug (we had already sold our house) so 17 weeks so far. Possible completion on 21st Dec as awaiting 1 signed form but if not will be Jan

We offered on ours 13th October which was accepted same day and moved in on Friday 9th December, 8 weeks and 1 day.
Just us and the vendor (we had already sold up and they moved into rented waiting for a probate house purchase to go through), and 2 very on the ball solicitors.

Worth noting though that we were lucky and were able to get a surveyor within 2 weeks and our searches came back in 4 weeks (delayed from the usual 10 days but nowhere near as delayed as other parts of the country!)

BarkerBump · 11/12/2022 11:46

Should add that we didn’t need to get a mortgage as we downsized and moved much further north, so have no experience with how long that would add to the process

Six months (and hopefully exchanging this week) but that's due to a problem with the title. No chain, buying probate property.

Never again.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/12/2022 13:06

DS (FTB) had an offer accepted in May. No onward chain, so was expecting to complete in September.

Endless delays with searches, vendors disappearing for two weeks due to illness, and their slow replies to enquiries mean that he's now hoping for January.

RM2013 · 11/12/2022 18:54

Currently 17 weeks into our purchase. We sold a little before this but 1 buyers pulled out. We are hoping to exchange this week with a possible completion on 21st. Just 3 in the chain
