Ideas how to mask/paint light on stairway ceiling

Have a light fixture that is about 4 metres high on our stairway. Too dangerous for a normal ladder, can’t afford one of the professional ones. Any ideas would be really welcome!

I'm not quite clear what you're trying to achieve. Why would you want to paint a light? And what do you mean by 'masking' it?

If it's too bright and you want to make it less so, you could pay an electrician to replace it (and hope they have a suitable ladder to access it). Or would it be possible to replace the switch with a dimmer? This might be doable without needing a ladder.

Sorry, mask around the rose of the ceiling light so I can paint the ceiling.

Bin bag to protect the bulk of the light. Masking tape around the edge of the ceiling rose. The only way to do that and paint the ceiling is get up a ladder or hire a platform ladder of some sort.
