Best carpets for scratchy cats

Hello. Does anyone have any recommendations for types of carpet that are good with scratchy cats? My cat claws at the carpet a lot and has even pulled up a bit from a door frame. I’ve heard wool isn’t great with scratchy cats. Not really sure where to start. Would like something nice and soft. Thanks!

Repaint then rub door frames with orange/satsuma skin.

Wool is fine, but you need a weave where the pile is open rather than looped, or their claws will get snagged and pull it to bits.

I bought my cat a big cat scratching unit, and used to regularly put cat nip on, it cured her.

the best £9 i spent was on a willow flat cardboard scratching box for my cats they love it and leave everything else alone and when it gets too manky its only £9 to replace it cheaper than new carpets or furniture and dosent take up much space like a post one which my horrible lot totally ignored

sorry forgot to say from pets at home

Yes, nothing looped!

We spray felliway on the sections where they scratch. A few sprays lasts 2 or 3 weeks and we can tell it's wearing off because they slowly start scratching again. We also have scratchers nearby that we spray with catnip. As a combo it works well. Our first carpet lasted a few months, the current one has been down for a couple of years and still looks new. It's just a bog standard synthetic carpet.

Thanks everyone for your advice! We are moving home and will be replacing the carpets in our new place so definitely want to minimise the risk of our cats ruining the new carpet!

@Isseywith3witchycats will definitely get some of those, great idea. We have lots of vertical scratching posts but I think our female cat prefers a horizontal scratch hence the carpet scratching so this could be a win.

@SheWoreYellow @jaundicedoutlook nothing looped - makes sense! Will keep that in mind when carpet shopping, thank you!

@superdupernova thanks for the tip! Will give it a try.
