I went to view a property today, the house has been left to a charity and it's the charity that are the vendors.
The agents are useless so I'd put nothing past them HOWEVER

There was a Renoir on the wall, an original painting signed. It looked a typical Renoir. I was curious so took it off the wall to look on the back (I love Fake and Fortune!) and it has gallery exhibition stickers on it dating from the 1800's.

Downstairs there is also a Hemy original sea scape which is also potentially valuable.

Am I being incredibly naïve in thinking these could be originals and no one has noticed???????

Wrong link, I assume, but really stupid to post a link to an empty house which potentially has valuable paintings in it.

How is that house a wreck? 🙄

Parpetrator · 26/11/2022 23:06

Tbf I'd describe it as a wreck too

curlymom · 26/11/2022 23:14

I missed the link and now I’m curious.

Very likely to be fakes unless there's an interesting family story. I met someone locally who has a Matisse in the hall and a Lowry in the dining room. I was Shock

Do Tell us more?

I would just so so love to be the owner of an original painting. A genius one that is. To sit staring at it for as long as I wished without people’s heads bobbing around in the way.

Me too curlymom although the whole thing sounds dodgy.
Why would anyone post the address of the place they thought there was an original painting?

If you’ve got famous paintings on the wall, you know you’ve got famous paintings on the wall. “Oh whoopsie what’s that cheeky Picasso doing there I never noticed”.

A moment of stupidity. She has since asked Mumsnet HQ to delete!
