Anyone bought a property with a tenant in? I’ve just bought a house in an auction and the tenant is being obstructive about a survey, I’ve paid for the survey and she just refuses to offer any availability

No but we're trying to buy a house with a tenant in it. The estate agent keeps asking for a convenient day but they haven't responded to any emails or voicemails. In our case the tenant would be given notice to vacate before we complete the purchase so there's no incentive to cooperate other than leaving on good terms with their current landlord.

I feel for the tenant as she is being served with a notice 21 but the landlord gave plenty of notice she was selling the house, it was the tenant who showed me around. It’s not a very old house so only getting a level 2 survey I think I’m just getting stressed!

A tenant dOES not have to allow access by anyone except in the case of emergency assuming it’s a standard AST. Buying a property with tenant in situ is fraught with difficulty and not fur the faint hearted. Unless you intend to take on the tenant do not exchange before you can guarantee vacant possession.
