Help me choose a Farrow and Ball paint colour !

This paper is going in the alcoves and matching paint on the fireplace wall. What colour for the rest of the room though? It's north facing but not really used during the day. The paint shop suggested skimming stone but the tester looks quite grey. Goes okay with the mauve but not the gold pattern. Any ideas? Thanks 😀

Stoney ground? A warm neutral that's not too yellow.

I'm a ditherer with colours but please choose Little Greene over F&B! Their paint is far superior in terms of application, maintenance and touching up (and colours are gorgeous!)

www.littlegreene.com/portland-stone

Is lovely.

Possibly a warm grey or light taupe, unless the detail is very grey/silver?

Also, another (unasked for) vote to use anything other than F&B. It's awful stuff; Little Green or Neptune apply much nicer, take less coats and leave a nicer finish.

F&B slipper satin if you’d prefer to go light.
F&B brinjal if you want to be brave and carry the stronger mauve colour throughout. (It’s a dark and brave choice but would be the perfect paint to go with the predominant colour of your paper).

F&B Wevet? A word to describe a spiders web apparently. It's a predominantly white, translucent, grey, purple, barely there colour. That's my best description!

I keep hearing good things about Little Greene will ask if they mix theirs too.

I really wanted Brinjal but when I took the paper sample in it was much brighter than I thought.

I'd go with something like Calluna with that paper.

Similar shades in other brands are available!

EveSix · 22/11/2022 22:50

I've got Elephant's Breath in a north facing room, albeit with a lot of natural light, and have textiles very similar to the paper you've pictured.
It is the most relaxing room in the house, invoking perfect tranquillity.

LG paint is fantastic - great pigmentation, creamy texture, would choose it any day over F&B.

I have Portland Stone (in varying “shades”) through some of my house. I love it, it’s really easy to switch around with different accessories.

If you find another colour elsewhere that you like, give LG a call. Most colours that exist have a RAL code. If you know/can find out the code then LG will mix that colour for you. You can’t do this online - you have to call or email them.

I have PS "dark" on a window frame. It's a gorgeous colour. Not a dark colour but dark in their shading iyswim.

I’ve just had a tin of that delivered yesterday afternoon! It’s to do the wood panels going up the staircase. Looking forward to the finished product (though not the actual painting).

Both Little Greene ans Lick is far better paint than F&B, F&B is pretty naff paint with nice ish colours and good marketing

OnGoldenPond · 23/11/2022 12:06

Skimming stone is a light beige. Just finished painting a fitted wardrobe with it

Helenabelle · 20/04/2024 05:37

It’s also got a horrible 5% sheen on it little Greene intelligent Matte and Their dead flat paint isn’t scrubbable like farrow and ball dead flat

We have elephants breath in our dining room and agree it’s lovely and restful.

choose your colour then get it mixed in tikkurila paint at trade shop. lovely quality and great to paint with and durable

Alchemistress · 20/04/2024 20:11

I'd want to go Sulking room pink to bring out the lilac/ purple shades but then I love moody dark colours and your wallpaper is making me think of Hellebores.
