Plastering Prices

Hi all, was wondering if anyone had any recent plastering prices please?
I know I should be getting multiple quotes but had 3 no shows, 2 saying they're off abroad for the winter and one who eas downright terrifying on the phone!

Had a quote back, 2 smallish doubles (3m x 2.5m), skim only would be £1,250 per room! Was a bit taken aback as last time I had a similar sized room done, it was £400.

Doubly confused as it's a multi trade company and have booked them in for repointing which was really reasonable.

I'm NW, I know that makes a difference!

Following as also getting plastering quotes next few days.

C4tastrophe · 22/11/2022 07:44

Sounds expensive as skimming a room is a one day job IF the walls are already prepared and they are not removing any woodwork.
A good plasterer and mate should do 2 rooms in one full day, IMO.

Mothersruin123 · 22/11/2022 07:54

That does seem quite expensive. I recently got a quote for living room (3x4m), cloak room, hall/stairs/landing (on 4 bed house) all including ceilings for £2.5k and I thought that was a lot. I do know the cost of materials has increased substantially in the last couple of years and labour rates seem to have gone up as well.

We were paying about £600 a room pre COVID (large rooms 5 x5x3m) during COVID it went up to £800 and the last one we had done (Oct this year) was £1500 but we did need the ceiling taking down and reboarding and it was done on a tight deadline i.e. within a week of the quote so we probably could have got the cost down to £1200 if we had waited and shopped around. In Yorkshire.

Thank you, it is just straight up skimming- there is a separate quote for removing and reapplying (reinstalling?) skirting.

Will try and get someone else out!

I’ve had a couple of rooms done and I would never have paid those prices. But everything has gone up in price. I had a quote for soffits etc in the summer £3600 he then never responded after quoting as probably realised he had under quoted based on materials prices. This week got another quote £5600. Same job. £3600 was ok. £5600 is expensive.

We had three (small) bedrooms and a landing plastered including taking down one ceiling and over boarding the other two bedrooms. it was about £4K. We’re in the NW.

I’ve just had several walls reboarded and skimmed. Total area slightly over 50m2 and included alcoves, under stairs, around windows - there was no large expanse of “easy, plain walls”.

I paid £400 for the skimming (builder did boarding). Plasterer provided all skimming materials and it took him 2 days. North East.

I was paying between £130-160 a day for a plasterer in 2018/2019 and providing materials myself.

Eggbuttie · 22/11/2022 08:58

Wow that seems expensive. We've just had a bathroom skimmed after removal of tiles and the walls were a mess. 3.5mx4m. £295. He did a brilliant job too.

Eggbuttie · 22/11/2022 08:58

North east also

WasteOfPaint · 22/11/2022 10:38

I've just had a quote for £350-£400 per WALL so I assume would be £1,750-£2,000 per room including the ceiling. This seems ridiculous, and is about 4-5 times what I paid last time (around 7 years ago). Surely no one would pay these kinds of prices?

This was with a building firm. I have arranged an independent plasterer to quote so hopefully will get better news, but I certainly won't bother with the whole job if it's going to be that much. Maybe I'll just get the ceilings done and fix up the walls myself.

Cherubimbum · 22/11/2022 17:59

@Eggbuttie we are in the North east and struggling to find a plasterer to give us a quote, even our regular guy has gone to ground. We are in Cleveland, are you by chance? If so would appreciate it if you could message with plasterer's contact details. Thanks
