Ring door bell

I stupidly bought a ring door bell thinking my door was wood but it isn’t it’s UPVC I was planning to just screw it in but now I can’t do that, it’s been suggested I use command strips to stick it to the door but I don’t think that’s a good idea or secure enough? Would you attach one in this way? Has anyone? I have an annoying family member that comes round my house so wanted to catch them on camera but I don’t think that’s secure enough and they could easily just pull it off surely? I don’t have to money to pay a handyman so will have to return it otherwise, has anyone put one up this way?

I put it up in the brick wall next to the door

SpinningFloppa · 21/11/2022 22:01

No wall close enough unfortunately it’s windows surrounding the door so wouldn’t catch much

Mine is on with Command strips and it’s fine. It’s been up in the recent wild weather with no problems.

But If someone leaned on the door etc would it fall off?

I have mine on with command strips too and it’s fine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone lean on my door!

SpinningFloppa · 21/11/2022 22:08

Sadly I have a crazy relative that does!

What about glue or silicon to stick the mounting plate to your door?
Also, check the instructions / manual as I think they recommend fitting it lower than you might for a normal doorbell, so a random door leaner unlikely to lean on it?

SpinningFloppa · 21/11/2022 22:17

I think the lower they are the more likely they will lean on it? If it was above out of the way then they wouldn’t be able to, they turn up drunk and lean against my door so I was hoping to catch them on camera, I wouldn’t like to use glue incase it doesn’t hold then I cannot return it.

My standard doorbell has been up on command strips for 10+ years. Is yours valuable /worth stealing

RobinStrike · 21/11/2022 22:21

I've just seen on Amazon they have a stick-on mount that you can put on the wall and then screw the doorbell into that. Alternatively there's sumo tape which is like command strips but designed to be weatherproof. (Not tried it yet though).

More worried about it being damaged than stolen if I put it to the side of the door rather than centre would it still cover the whole door area? Thinking it would less
likely be touched that way
