What state should property be left in by builders when they leave?

I’m approaching the end of a long build - internal renovations and a large extension. I’ve never had major building work before. The builders reckon they are due to finish by the end of this week - what state should they leave the property in internally and externally? Front garden got pretty trashed in the work and some contractors (tiler) swilling out grouty water right outside the house. Obviously different contractors too - plasterers etc. Plumbers have definitely been the neatest and cleanest! There are bits of plaster around Velux window trims etc - should that be cleaned off? Should the house be hosed down outside and left reasonably clean? And how clean inside? Decorators seem to do a lot of cleaning. But does the responsibility lie with builders as main contractor? Or am I hopelessly naive thinking it might be left neatish? I’m not adverse to having a good clean to move back in but equally after a long and expensive build I’d hope to have them leave it looking reasonable…

Sorry should have changed that to say that obviously I expect to have a good clean to move back in and I have been vacuuming and cleaning and sweeping what I can the past couple of weeks. But just wondered how builder should leave things?

my builders have already told me they will power hose the house outside and the driveway. They are pretty neat, and tidied up after the mess the brick layers left!!

I would expect all rubbish and off cuts cleared away, all visible splashes and stains etc outside cleaned. It will of course be dusty but the builders should leave it presentable

Our builder's quote includes final clean inside. Outside I'm expecting it to be returned to 'normal'.

Agree with PPs, outside of house will be cleaned and if there are visible plaster or cements marks, they need to fix that. Talk to the project manager / foreman before they get to that stage.
Inside, a ‘builders clean’ will depend on what you have agreed with them. My builder had not stipulated that, but organised it for a small cost when I asked.
