Soon to be moving in to our forever home and the loft bedroom needs fitted wardrobes

I've only used sharps- they're ok but is there something better out there?

Would you be happy to fit them yourself or do you want something made to measure? We've just bought the IKEA Platsa range you can design online yourself and was surprised at how easy they were to put together. Everything literally just clicked together. We've fitted them all to the wall and it looks great.

coffeeneeded · 20/11/2022 19:22

Thanks- definitely want made to measure though.

IKEA pax might suit.

I looked at Sharps etc but they were expensive and didn't offer what I wanted. I got an independent fitter to make mine (oak and oak veneer).

Porcinimushroom · 20/11/2022 19:24

We used Hammonds would thoroughly recommend.

as you know though, it costs.

coffeeneeded · 20/11/2022 19:37

Happy to spend some money on it all as I want it to last a long old time.

Thanks for the Hammond rec.

We also used Hammonds and very pleased with the results

Where are you based? I used someone for fitted in my loft bedroom, spare room, son's bedroom, utility room and porch cabinetry. Think he covers London and surrounding counties. He used to work for Sharps I believe.

I also have someone who has made and installed four doors for me and he also does wardrobes.

LiftyLift · 20/11/2022 20:52

We have a few local companies that offer these, I found them on Facebook and follow their pages. All a fraction of the cost of Sharps.

coffeeneeded · 20/11/2022 21:43

SW London. Thanks all. V useful. There are a few company's near by I think. It would be nice to support local.

I would probably choose Hammonds if we had the budget. As we don’t, it will be Vestium (who customise IKEA Pax) or Fittingly (who seem to be a cheaper alternative to Sharps and Hammonds). We haven’t yet requested a quote from either yet (will be for our loft next year).

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/11/2022 21:49

We used My Sliding Wardrobes. They supplied, we fitted.
5m run with 5 doors and internal fittings (drawers, shelves, hanging rails, to suit our needs) cost approx £3.3 earlier this year.

ChocolateHelps · 20/11/2022 21:51

Fine living - showroom in Wembley but covers all of London. Really good quality, totally bespoke. Choice of wood veneer interiors.

We used Hammonds and my parents used sharps. Hammonds we’re cheaper for better quality in our experience (my parents say this and plan to use Hammonds in their new home).

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2022 21:58

I used a local company. They did a fab job and cheaper than Sharps, Or Sliderobes.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2022 21:58

Cost £2009

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 20/11/2022 23:16

Lux Fitted Wardrobes on Instagram or FB. Competitively priced and I'm happy with their work.

TheBelmont · 21/11/2022 05:13

We used John Lewis who came in about 1/3 of the price of Sharps….Sharps wanted £12k got same with JL for £4K. This was about 6 years ago though but still pleased with quality and service was very good.

iusedtohavechickens · 21/11/2022 21:13

John Lewis offer built in wardrobe services, we currently have some that are 13 years old and still amazing!!

TaughtMeHowToDangle · 21/11/2022 21:20

We used this company they are based in SW London. They were absolutely amazing. Their prices were the most competitive, they came out straight away to survey and price and once we paid the deposit they were installed within WEEKS! The quality was really good (I work in construction) and they were really tidy workers and lovely labourers.

@ChocolateHelps wow, are these yours or a web pic? Any idea on price x

Bubbleses · 16/03/2023 11:46

Have a look for recommended local joiners in your area? This is what we did - found a local guy who fitted them to a v high standard for a fraction of the price we were quoted by bigger companies. Found him by asking on a local Facebook group for recommendations.

Lordofmyflies · 16/03/2023 11:57

We used Hammonds last year for a £8K fitted study. It was an absolute nightmare from the minute they took our money. It took over 7 months for the fitting to be done and they cancelled the arranged fit date, four times before it was eventually done.

We lived for 2 months with the contents of our study in our hallway as they ask you to empty the room and lift the carpet before they do the fit! They did agree to give us compensation for the disruption and took full responsibility for the chaotic service but it was so stressful and such an upheaval. I would never recommend them. Sorry.

Yes, they're mine. I paid about £8k for 4.5m of wardrobes, taller than average as my ceiling height is 2.7m, that's why there are smaller doors at the top. There are a couple of internal drawers plus the extra white bookcase at the end of the run. Took just over a week to fit as they build the carcass in the room. The doors are ordered and arrive factory finished. They have a number of finishes and mine are the matt white finish. I ordered the handles from Broughtons (glass pull handles with nickel) but Fine Living can supply handles, I think they use Plank handles

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 16/03/2023 14:44

We used Hammonds, excellent service from start to finish. Build quality is very good, can highly recommend them. The fitter was freelance, he was a pleasure to have in the house and tidied up after himself. That was some 7 years ago.

anfieldgal · 16/03/2023 19:37

Oh wow, thank you. Unfortunately 8k is nowhere near in our budget though atm. Beautiful cupboards though.
