Alternatives to Velux for an extension?

We’re hoping to have black ultra-slim sliding doors in our ground-floor extension, and I’m now thinking about the windows on our pitched roof.

I’ve budgeted for Velux but wondering if they will look a bit clunky compared with the sliders. But I don’t think we can afford fancy roof glazing! Has anyone else opted for something not-Velux that didn’t break the bank?

You really don’t look up very much, I doubt you’ll think about them once they’re in.

I’d agree. What you see is the sky. Match the inside frame to your new doors or go white if the ceiling is white.

Thank you. You’re probably right! I do get very fixated on the little details. 🙈

Do they need to open or not? If not then there are loads of choices which might look more stylish than Velux for a similar budget. You can also order Fakro which are good quality and slightly cheaper and have them custom painted to match your doors. Velux might well do the same service.

Buy the Velux, you'll never have an issue with them, it's worth it. I've had mine in 27yrs and the sealed unit is still perfect, ditto the hinges & flashing etc.
