We bought our house a couple of months ago. Just had a bit of mould appear on the downstairs ceiling, underneath the bathroom, bath directly above. Took the bath panel off and saw a big damp patch on the floorboard. There was no obvious leak but I managed to work out that it was the overflow, which doesn't have a good seal on it and the front plate was loose.
That can be fixed easily enough, however whilst there I noticed that the state of the walls under the bath is pretty bad. There are a couple of bits where it feels a bit crumbly, where is looks like water might have trickled down over time (but dry now) and there is a hole in the corner where I can see a couple of loose bricks and can see through to the outer layer of the wall. Then there's a further dark patch along the side of the bath which could be mould and possibly caused by the sealant not being good enough above.
Apart from fixing the leak I'm not sure what to do... firstly to sort out any mould that might be in there (including between the floor and celling below) and secondly about the hole in the corner - not sure if this is even a problem but would it be best to have a builder or someone look at it?
Any advice gratefully received! Thanks
