Possible house insurance claim just as I change companies

Hi,
I hope this wont happen.
I have been with same insurance company for at least 3 years. The renewal quote, via agent, is 60% higher than last year, and I recently bought a policy from another company. The cover hasn’t started yet, and I am still within the 14 days cancellation period. I think there is an admin fee to cancel.
I have been dealing with a problem raised by my neighbour, which until the last few days never occurred to me could escalate to insurance companies. He hasn’t suggested insurance, but when I asked on here for help with the issue a couple of people mentioned this.
Does anyone know what will happen if my neighbour does involve his insurance company? Will my old and new ones deal with it together? Would it be safer to re insure with the old one, even though it is more expensive, and I may have to pay to cancel the new one?

stick with your old company until it is resolved.
