Kitchen tiling/decor question

In an L shaped kitchen is it ok to tile just one of the walls (the short bit of the L) behind the hob and under the wall cupboards and just leave the long bit of the L painted?

I am finalising the kitchen renovation plans and can't decide if this would look weird. The tiles would provide some warmth and contrast to the white units and pale grey worktop. I have noone sensible to bounce design ideas off in real life so would appreciate opinions!

I think it could look a bit odd. How about only tiling the hob part?

will you have an upstand?

Thanks, yes just a 7cm upstand.

I wasn't sure if a tiled splashback behind the hob only would look more odd in terms of it standing out.

Maybe I need to price up tiling the whole L. It wouldn't be too much more surface area. I would have to rethink the colour though
