Moving with kids - is this a good/bad idea?

We are moving from a lovely finished house 10mins down the road to a smaller house needing a lot of work (probate sale, questionable heating, needs a good clean)

Near the house is a lovely pub with rooms. Will it confuse the kids if we booked to stay at the pub night 1?

We're in a chain of 4 people, so no idea realistically what time we'd get in. 3 kids 4 and under and bedtime is 6pm. The plan would be to show the kids, go to pub room to sleep/bfast, then start the next day back at the house fresh. Am I being too anxious about it? Or is this a good idea?

Sounds sensible not sure why you are worried? We moved when we were kids and we all stayed with my grandparents for whole weeekend whilst my parents moved, they said it was so much easier

Up to you Op, personally I would rather be at the house and crack on with it, get beds in and made up, takeaway delivered, pack suitcases with what you need for a few days, get up early and start to unpack before the kids get up. Good luck with your move.

Sounds a great idea!

Night in hotel is perfectly normal and not confusing. Especially for long distance moves.

From my experience showing the kids an empty house is confusing. It looks more like home with their furniture in it.

I'd book for the night before as well - then one adult can go to the house you are leaving, do whatever needs doing there and then crack on at the new house to make at least one room clean and sorted enough so that the next day the children can play in there while everything else is done
