getting more than one quote

Does anyone else find this difficult ? Is it just me being ridiculous and needing to grow up ?

At the moment we have guttering that needs replacing and some re pointing work .A scaffold is required due to height and some other factors .

I've seen the work of one firm who spent some time on a house opposite - looked thorough and I liked the person who did it and who has now visited mine .

I know I need to get at least another quote but I find it hard and baulk at what feels like getting someone else to spend time looking and quoting .

But I need to stop being silly ,don't I ?

It’s one of those best practice, “nice in theory” things but getting people out to quote is like blood from a stone at the moment, let alone getting them to follow up and actually send the quote. If you like the quote and think their work will be decent and can get someone to vouch for them, I don’t think it’s always necessary for small jobs. (Obviously “massive extension and refurb taking a year” you’ll want multiple quotes. Small maintenance jobs, eh. Getting it done is more important.)

Thank you stunt .I do feel that .

Yes, I agree with above. You don't always need to get other quotes. If you are happy with the price and have seen his work, I would go ahead with it.

I agree. We tried to get more than one quote for our kitchen but only one company responded. We found them through a recommendation from friends so went ahead with them since someone had vouched for them. They did a good job so it worked out.

Must admit we only ended up with one quote for our major house renovation. I got multiple recommendations for one company, and they were also the only ones that had availability within months rather than next year.

It was partly the amount of time needed and partly trades availability - I had to take a half day's leave for initial quote, then another for more detailed quote. As each took 2-3 hours. I thought about booking a few days off as a block, but it seemed to be impossible to get trades all in on those days. I did get one out who then never got back to us!

It then emerged that almost all of our neighbours had already used the company that did quote so we felt quite confident going ahead with them!

Can I ask how much you were quoted and for how much guttering?

I posted about this last week. I've had about 4 people round now, 2 have quoted, but I'm worried they're expensive. Totally happy to pay the going rate... but so hard when you don't know what that is!

peridito · 14/11/2022 21:01

@CellophaneFlower we've not had the quote yet ,but will let you know when I do .

I really struggled to get people round to quote and a couple quoted and then disappeared into thin air

Go for the company uou like. It will
Take months to get things moving anyway so don't delay
