Booking Removals Date

What is the normal practice for booking a removals company when you don’t know the exact date of completion until exchange of contracts, with possibly short notice.
Similarly, what is best to do getting rid of surplus furniture before you know the date, especially when downsizing and don’t want to leave your home looking too empty in case sales fall through completely.

We got a lot of quotes and narrowed it down to four, then just waited to see which were available on the day we finally settled on for completion.

Not going to lie - this was one of the most stressful elements of the move for me. But it worked out well in the end.

Good luck!

Just book removals once you’re exchanged, not before is my advice!

or else book now but be prepared to lose your ( probably £250) deposit should it fall through.

I got quote a while back but explained we didn’t yet have a date. He just advised get in touch as soon as we have a completion date.
we aren’t downsizing but naturally after 19 years we had a lot of stuff to sort. I sorted/ decluttered the garage and loft plus cupboards so that we have less to move. Did a mixture of car boot:, FB marketplace and tip runs!! We’ve narrowed down for all the things we need to take with us.

We got a 3 quotes and just gave our provisional completion date and then called to book in when we had exchanged.

I guess the nearer you get to when you think you'll be moving the more you'll have to weigh up the stress of not having booked someone with the stress of having booked someone and then it not going through. It's just another stress to add onto everything else!
