It’s come back on (they need to update website) but I’m not sure on location. We are relocating from London up to York.

I just feel a bit like I’m not sure on it for some reason, even though it fits budget. Anyone know Skipwith?

Lovely home, I love the decor. Perfect tone of green throughout.
But I know nothing about the area :(

Tootyfilou · 12/11/2022 15:34

I think it's gorgeous!

Emptyinsidetothecore · 12/11/2022 15:35

Omg that house is beautiful 😍
Every room I liked from the pictures, like you’d have to do nothing to it!

Its clearly got character but has been modernised, and looks to a good level too.

No idea on area I’m afraid, but house, layout, space, decor are awesome.

Talapia · 12/11/2022 15:36

I don't know the area but I also love the green.

Not sure why there are so many pictures of the kitchen table and vase!

mondaytosunday · 12/11/2022 15:55

Its fine - country classic. But I think it needs another bathroom upstairs, so perhaps the adjoining bedroom needs to be split or something. Not a lot of privacy at the back.

RM2013 · 12/11/2022 16:00

I don’t know the area but it’s a beautiful house

Twiglets1 · 12/11/2022 16:02

I need to move there!
Shame my job is in the SE

MissMeowCat · 12/11/2022 16:04

Village is nice, Drovers arms pub is lovely but A19 is not great. There are plans to also build a new town nearby (Heronby) which will impact all local area if it goes through. Personally I wouldn’t be buying a house for that price 🫣 I’d want more for my money. Plus it’s also sold 😬

comfortablyfrumpy · 12/11/2022 16:05

No idea on location, but golly it's gorgeous!

Eek3under3 · 12/11/2022 16:09

Beautiful house!! No idea about area or whether it’s reasonably priced.

OldMotherShipton · 12/11/2022 16:17

Its not York- it is Selby
Not a great location at all.
Where would children go to school there? East Riding or North Yorkshire?

SarahAndQuack · 12/11/2022 16:30

It looks about right price-wise (we're in north yorks). Personally, I think they've made it a bit too bland - I can see it's 1740s but it looks somehow a bit like a newbuild made to look old, if you see what I mean? It's nicely done, though, there's nothing wrong with it, and the rooms look nice sizes and proportions.

As a PP says, some people are a bit snobby about Selby, but it's not in Selby, is it? It's an easy distance to York, which is nice.

TranquilityofSolitude · 12/11/2022 16:35

We nearly bought a house in Skipwith a few years ago, but didn't because we had teens and didn't fancy driving them up and down to York all the time. I don't know if children in Skipwith go to secondary school in Barlby or Fulford. Fulford is excellent. Barlby not so much!

If you don't have children and don't mind driving, Skipwith is lovely. Great pub, great walks. York nearby.

Isn't that house sold anyway?

Why would it need another bathroom upstairs? It's got 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, surely that's enough?

I think the house is beautiful, thougth like a PP think the back garden is rather lacking in privacy.

PinPin11 · 12/11/2022 16:37

Skipwith is lovely and considered ‘naice’ for that weird bit in between Selby and York, it’s so remote though, essentially a village and not one near anything with many facilities. We didn’t go for it for that reason, house is gorgeous but you’re nowhere near York.

DilemmaDelilah · 12/11/2022 16:41

Check out the sizes of the rooms. Some look VERY narrow and none of them are huge.

OldMotherShipton · 12/11/2022 17:21

I used to live in a very similar house in a more desirable part of NY. Sold it for £500k in 2006. There is a reason this house is cheap- location and lack of garden
No garage- unclear where you park
Is there still a working farm?
The small amount of outdoor space looks very overlooked.

York school admissions are quite restrictive- so if it is Selby you need to take a very good look at where they would go.

catfunk · 12/11/2022 17:32

Nice home but you'd be VERY reliant on cars - do you have any DC and do they drive ?

merryhouse · 12/11/2022 17:44

That house would piss me off.

The office has no window, and the utility room has no outside door.

The kitchen diner has a fuckton of wasted space, and the second reception room is too narrow (you'd be uncomfortable trying to get a string quartet in that) with the window awkwardly placed.

Also, in my experience butler sinks are usually too low to be comfortable, and that bath is hideous (also wth bare brick inside anywhere never mind a room with water in).

Plus no garden.

toastedcat · 12/11/2022 19:47

I do find the overlooked garden somewhat puzzling, not sure what that back road is or who would be going past. And yes, somehow it does look like a new build they've tried to add old features to.

Interesting re: Skipwith... no dc yet but hoping to in the future. Will check out schools.
