Bookcases with glass doors

We are planning to move things around and put our books, which currently live in an office, in the living room. I love the look of a book-lined room and plan to get shelves to fill a full wall but DS has been diagnosed with a dust mite allergy this year and I can’t have that kind of a dust-trap in a room where he spends a lot of time. I am looking into glass doors but nothing is inspiring me. If you have stylish bookcases with glass doors I would love to see them, please!

They're not particularly stylish but Bjlly bookcases are inoffensive

Was going to say Billy bookcases 😂

We have one a bit like this, it is 1920s and a bit more arts and crafts and has 5 shelves so is a lot bigger/wider. Each shelf has its own lift up glass front rather than opening a full door so you can put a sofa or chair in front of it as you don’t need as much space to access the books.
We inherited ours but you can probably get one at an auction or off eBay, I guess if you don’t like the dark oak you could paint it (depends on your taste).

Billy bookcase. They are super versatile. We have just used 3 to make a reading corner. The outer two have doors on and the shelves are adjustable and can be added to if you want a smaller gap between each shelf. Pinterest has lots of hacks to make them look more bespoke as well if that's the route you want to go down. I think the doors can be all glass or half glass (top half) as well.

I have a dust mite allergy and grew up in an exceedingly book-lined home! The thing that made the most difference was what was in my bedroom, and pillows and bedding. We covered my “ornaments”’display shelves with a kind of fake glass front - a large sheet of Perspex cut to size, held in place with stick on magnetic strips running all the way around the outside of the sheet and, matching, along the front edges of the display shelves.

For bookcases, if you get them made to size so that the shelves are a very neat fit to the books (ie not most of the bookshelves that you can buy where the shelves are huge compared to the book) then they don’t particularly gather dust as there isn’t space - you can just dust along the front.

Local auction house vintage ones will be a lot cheaper as brown furniture is out of fashion but much sturdier than modern furniture

I think they’re going to make a comeback and you’ll be ahead of the curve.
