Long story, but had a large extension completed nearly 18 months ago. Builder left a few issues which didn't come to light immediately and doesn't respond to us. He was supposed to arrange for inspection and has been given lots of chances to.do.so (knowing that some things need rectifying) but hasn't.
So we have called building control to get them to check. A few weeks ago we found out we had been left with no RCDs meaning the whole.house was live with no trip protection etc...we had paid to get that fixed obviously and have made a complaint with the electrician board.
We have now found out that our new windows aren't compliant as they are not escape windows, and that building control told our builder during an interim inspection. We also have concerns about our fire alarms (meant to be mains linked but forgotten until too late) and a few other bits.
A large roof lantern blew out in the winds earlier this year and wedged itself in the roof, we are very lucky it didn't go further as could have killed someone.
We are sure it won't pass. What happens then? Do we need to pursue the builder through small claims or similar to get this fixed?
So.cross/disappointed. We were good, fair clients who paid well and he in effect left our house with 3 young kids in it dangerous, knowingly.
