Layout help

Saw a house today that I originally thought had lots of potential but now I’ve seen it and the floor plan, I’m not so sure…

Ideally I’d like 2 bedrooms together for the children, I’m happy to be on a different floor myself.

I’ve never done a house project but this one would need new kitchen, windows, bathrooms etc so just interested to see what others would do.

Thank you!

I'm not sure it would work for you TBH.

The expensive option would be move the stairs up from being in the living room to above the stairs down to the basement. Then create a bedroom where the existing stairs come up by putting a floor across the void. Expensive and maybe not structurally viable.

Another option would be to make the first floor open plan living/kitchen/dining and the ground floor into bedrooms. A "upside down" house,

I wouldn’t buy a house with the stairs in the sitting room, unless you thought it was worth enclosing them. I’ve had one , the heat goes straight up the stairs, and it’s not very restful being essentially in a through route.

there is no bathroom on the loft floor, and it looks pretty cramped up there; it’s always a shame to have so much wasted space with the void and landing, unless you have a use for a big landing?

really, it’s all over the place. Unless it is very charming , I wouldn’t bother.

It's an awful layout.

You could have the dining room as a bedroom.

Living room as a dining room and use the lower ground bed as the living room.

Depending on DC age, I wouldn't be too happy with them on Ground floor alone.

I can't really see this being a workable house for your needs.

Thank you all.
I think I’m getting slightly desperate to move (our buyers want to be in asap!) so needed clear unbiased opinions.

I’ll keep looking!
