Easy clean new bathroom ideas

So I know a new bathroom won’t clean itself but…I’m trying to factor in ease of cleaning when making choices about new bathroom.

I want to minimise amount of grout so going for bigger tiles (have small mosaic ones now) and avoiding tiles on floor.

what things have you chosen for a new bathroom that you’d recommend re ease of cleaning, and what would you avoid?

any advice appreciated.

Sounds silly but storage - somewhere to store cleaning products, extras etc. We put in built in storage and it’s a lifesaver for not having to clean around 1000s of bottles. I always find that’s what takes ages. We keep a max 3 bottles in the shower.

Mid grey grout

Like PP, inbuilt storage to avoid clutter that traps dirt. Industrial strength extractor van (can be concealed in cupboard) to avoid grout going black from mould. Large format floor tiles that don't show up dirt (we have large tumbled limestone slaps with natural imperfections). Floating shower screens/avoidance of all shower doors with silicon stoppers underneath/on sides, as those always get mouldy. Living somewhere with soft water or a watersoftener.

HG Mold Spray,

We had wall hung bog (quite high), basin, & bog brush holder, so we can just fling the robot mop in there and there are no nooks and crannies it can't reach.

I've just had my bathroom done and I wish I'd had a floating toilet, so that boy wees don't pool against the toilet if that makes sense. But I've done the other things suggested big tiles, grey groat, sink vanity for storage. I also have ancove along the bath which is good to put shampoo etc as opposed to propping items on the bath or having one of those metal or plastic caddies

Choose taps without nooks and crannies for dirt to gather in. Simple designs that are easy to clean.

Loo that goes right to the back of the wall and doesn't have a ledge round the base. So not this sort of thing: https://www.bathrooms.com/suites/iflo-herita

We have large tiles and pale grey grouting, and got as much up off the floor as we could. We're in a hard water area so i also quickly changed out my glass over the tub shower door for a stainless steel C shaped shower curtain rail. I wish I'd bought different taps. Hard water makes them a pain to clean. I chose a mirror that sits flush against rather than proud away from the wall. The later ate more popular at the moment, they don't fog up, but i didn't want the dust trap along the top.

Choose taps/sink combo that allow you to get your fingers plus cloth behind/under the taps. Get a good extractor fan as it really helps reduce damp and therefore mildew/mold.
somewhere to hang towels/bath mats to properly dry - eg towel rail over the bath. Let’s the radiator properly warm the bathroom and water drops are easier to ignore/wipe from the bath then a rusting radiator.
storage inside cupboards not open baskets!

We have those shower panels in our shower - so easy to clean as zero grout. But not to everyone’s taste. Venetian blinds (bathroom window privacy) might be easier to clean.

ScoobyDoobyDoowhere · 01/11/2022 21:55

@Fenella123 and @NellyBarney and anyone else please could you share photos of your easy clean bathrooms.

We have quite a small bathroom and looking for easy clean inspiration ideas. Also not sure what goes with what floor, whether multi-panel/tiles and what sort of flooring etc (to pull the look together but easy clean is my absolute priority. Really like the sound of a wall mounted toilet and sink.

I’ve bought huge panels they are about 230 cm x 100 cm and basically you can screw them in over your existing tiles if you want I didn’t want to do that so I did go right back to basics but literally it’s like up in a waterproof wall you just rinse off.

SisterGeorgeMichael · 01/11/2022 22:05

I've got a walk in Shower so there is no door so less cleaning. Don't get dark tiles. My dh insisted on them and they never look clean.

HiveBee · 01/11/2022 22:06

That’s kind of mine only I’ve gone for a colour on the walls rather than the white
