Placed an offer yesterday morning and I'm on tender hooks! There's three of us for the vendor to choose between and I just can't remember from our first experience years ago!

we offered on Saturday afternoon and got it declined Friday morning (it took a while as we needed to have a mortgage check and seller had 2 people to choose between)

Adj · 29/10/2022 15:39

put final offer in Monday evening, got a call Tuesday afternoon that it had been accepted

donttellmehesalive · 29/10/2022 16:33

Offered on Saturday but had to wait until Wednesday.

Back2Black · 29/10/2022 17:19

Put an offer in 2 weeks ago, still waiting to hear back - week one, the EA couldn't get hold of the vendor. Week 2 the vendor wants to honour viewings booked for this weekend. I'll be withdrawing my offer on Monday.

Chanel05 · 29/10/2022 17:25

Haven't heard back and obviously closed tomorrow. Will update when I hear!

@Back2Black that's appalling. Probably the right decision as they may well mess you about further down the line even if you did get accepted.

@Back2Black wow, that's shocking! Definitely the right move to withdraw

We’ve tried to buy several houses in the last year. First house - offer accepted next day. Second house - offer accepted same day. Third house - offer declined after 5 days. Then it came back onto the market a few months later, we offered again and had an offer accepted the next day. But they all fell through for one reason or another. We actually offered on a house yesterday morning too! Hoping to hear back on Monday

Chanel05 · 29/10/2022 17:53

@Paddingtonthebear that's such bad luck! Fingers crossed that this is your lucky one

Couple days max, partly because the sellers live in Australia.

RM2013 · 29/10/2022 18:07

We viewed on the sat and offered via EA afterwards but it went to best and final and fortunately they accepted our offer by the close of business on the sat.
we then lost our buyer a couple of weeks later so informed the EA who were then instructed to put it back on the market but said they would accept our original offer if we found a new buyer. Luckily we sold again the next day so were able to offer again which was accepted again same day after they had checked our buyers status

Why are you withdrawing? Just curious as when we sold a few years ago we honoured all the bookings?

User38899953 · 29/10/2022 18:32

Just to add no one withdrew. We thought we were doing the right thing! Did I make a bad move? We actually ended up going with one of the first offers. Not the highest price, but the nicest family.

toastfiend · 29/10/2022 19:35

We offered on a Saturday evening and heard back on the Monday morning. One person had offered above ours so we upped ours a bit and it was accepted Monday afternoon. Hoping to complete in the next couple of weeks.

Prior to that we offered on a house where they took 10 days to reject our first offer (and we only found out because they dropped the price on Rightmove and I happened to spot it), we upped our offer a bit, waited for 3 weeks with absolutely no acknowledgement from the vendors before viewing the house we are now purchasing and withdrawing our offer. It was being sold by a property management company, so a bit different, but the agents were appalling and didn't keep us informed at any stage.

Tenterhooks. On tenterhooks. I offered on a Tuesday and was kept waiting until lunchtime the following day. Torture! (See tenterhooks)

threegoodthings · 29/10/2022 20:21

We bought this year. Viewed our house at 11am, emailed the offer in at 1pm and the agent rang at 5:30 to say it had been accepted.

Suteki · 29/10/2022 20:27

Ten hours on tenterhooks.

How long did you recently wait to find out if your offer had been accepted / declined?
Paddingtonthebear · 29/10/2022 23:29

We didn’t hear anything today either

rrrrrreatt · 30/10/2022 18:03

We offered on 5 houses in spring before we had an offer accepted. Everything went to best and final back then and we’d normally hear within a week.

We’re looking again due to issues with that purchase and the market’s changed a lot so, if we find anything we like, hopefully it might be slightly quicker with less best and finals.

luciaann · 30/10/2022 18:12

Put the offer in an email in the evening and heard it had been accepted first thing

Someaddedsugar · 30/10/2022 18:12

We viewed a number of houses earlier this year and had our offers declined on each one within 48 hours. We negotiated on one property and had a second viewing but decided not to up our offer and told the EA this immediately so the vendor wasn't hanging on.

I hope those of you who are waiting on news hear soon!

manateeandcake · 30/10/2022 20:24

Offered on a Saturday afternoon after EA saying that “there could be a handshake today”,
only to be told that vendors were not contactable and we would hear on Monday.
On Monday morning EA told us there were other offers, including one “significantly higher” and there would be a final decision by close of business on Wednesday. We increased our offer on Wednesday but still didn’t get a decision. Finally heard that our offer was accepted on Thursday afternoon. 5 days of pure torture.
In the end ours was not the highest offer, but we had the biggest deposit and the vendors liked the fact that we are a family with young DC.

TwentyForty · 30/10/2022 22:20

Day 1: 1st offer given
Day 2: 1st offer declined. 2nd offer given.
Day 3: nothing
Day 4: nothing
Day 5: nothing
Day 6: late in the day, 2nd offer accepted.

I think they left us hanging while other viewings happened, but our offer was 20k under asking so fair enough!

It was truly horrible waiting though.

otherellie · 30/10/2022 23:41

We offered on Wednesday afternoon (at full asking price) and were rejected on Thursday morning. Others had asked for second viewings and they wanted to honour these, so told everyone to make best and final offers by Monday 5pm.

Made a second offer on Monday afternoon (£12k increase on previous). It took until the following Thursday for them to accept and the wait was torture. I got a variety of excuses from the EA through those 10 days - one of the sellers was travelling for work, the other came down with flu, etc.

We were on the verge of calling to say our offer was only valid until the end of that week, but nothing else we liked seemed to be coming to the market so we didn't have any better option but to wait.

We'd made offers on two other houses before then (one rejected, one accepted but purchase fell through) and heard back within 48 hours for each of those, so 10 days seems a bit ridiculous!
