The smaller wall closest to the door or the larger wall with the radiator?

THANKS!

I’d

MsSweeney · 28/10/2022 22:35

The larger wall, I think.

Traditionally you’d put it closer to the door.

Radiator wall

kronenbourg · 28/10/2022 23:47

Also any ideas to make the place more homely would be much appreciated. Its a cold new build

Closer to the door to bounce the light around

Good idea!

I’d have it on the radiator wall, with a console table.

CrapBucket · 28/10/2022 23:54

Near the door, from someone also in a new build! You want maximum light. Then something else on the other wall that reflects you/your interests. Like a film poster or a picture you like. But not cheesy word slogans.

MrsGamgee · 28/10/2022 23:56

By the door

Paint or wallpaper the walls to give some colour.

Shelf above the radiator. Pop on photo frame, candle, post vase etc.

Artwork above the radiator.

Patterned rug in the hallway.

maximist · 29/10/2022 00:19

I'd put it next to the door.

SheilaWilde · 29/10/2022 00:23

Radiator wall with a shelf or hall table. Hall table can then be gone to keys, pot plant and (if you live in my house) random crap.

PotatoRabbit · 29/10/2022 00:31

Larger wall with radiator. A small painting/photograph on the small wall near the door. Putting the mirror next to the door makes sense BUT it will make the doorway look really heavy/busy/messy/crowded.

Starseeking · 29/10/2022 08:03

By the door, as it'll provide two functions; 1 to reflect light around the area, and 2 for people to check their reflection as they leave the house.

sopeas · 29/10/2022 09:44

Closer to the door

kronenbourg · 29/10/2022 11:00

It's a "second gen" new build so it has had a previous owner who painted the hallway purple! We have since re-painted it almond white to make the space lighter.

I think we will go for the mirror on the smaller wall - was swayed by the light reflecting! Also, we have a cupboard opposite that wall that stores our coats, so we can have a final look in the mirror as we leave the house.

There isn't enough room for a console table, the hallway is far too narrow.

Keep the ideas coming to make the place cosier! I will send pictures of how the place currently looks. Attached is part of our open plan kitchen/living room.
