how long does exchange process on day normally take?

FTB here, 3 of us in the chain. Exchanged has been delayed all week until today. Got a call from solicitor at 9am to ask if we still want to proceed, just wondered if anyone knows if it's an all-day thing or if its done usually within a certain timeframe, I didnt know if we needed to call solicitor by a certain time if we haven't heard anything

We were due to exchange last Friday and, like you got the call at 9am asking if we wanted to proceed. We hadn't heard anything by 5pm so I rang our Solicitor who told us exchange hadn't happened but didn't know why! We're still waiting for a new exchange date nearly a week later! Fingers crossed you get to exchange today.

Four in a chain for us - we were second.

We got the call at 9am from our solicitor asking if we wanted to proceed. We were meant to exchange by 1pm but there were some delays up the chain so we ended up getting the keys at 4:30pm.

You get the keys on completion, not exchange.

(Yes, I know that some people do exchange and complete on the same day, but they are two very different things)

I called several times to chase as otherwise my solicitor would call buyer's one once in morning and then nothing would happen unless I called and suggested they tried calling again.

We had about two or three days of attempts before we managed it.

It's literally a short telephone call with a defined script. Once it starts, the calls should bounce up the chain quite quickly to make sure the chain is completed and nobody is left homeless!

Arranging the chain of calls to take place can be the complex bit.

Ftb and no chain. Paid deposit. Exchanged within an hour. Was marvellous. Completed a couple of days later, couldn’t have asked for an easier process for our first time
