It never was but that might have changed in the last 10 years.

Twoducksonthewindow · 18/10/2022 06:54

Why did you pick Flitwick..train links? It's OK, but I work there not live. I wouldn't move there. Ampthill is nicer and there are many little villages around.

It feels like a tescos with some houses around it.

I live just down the road and lived in Flitwick previously. It’s…ok. Not much there, just new houses, Tesco and the train station but for the last reason it is convenient if you need to commute. It doesn’t have much of a community feel but I don’t feel especially unsafe there, it’s just a bit meh and in need of some decent facilities. The Tesco in particular is rubbish but there’s a new Aldi in the pipeline although it’s been promised for years. The moor and wood are nice but generally there are much better places in that area - Ampthill is a million times nicer but also much more expensive.

@Twoducksonthewindow

No to Luton.

Flitwick has a good leisure centre and good library, train station and like pp Idon't feel unsafe there.

Tesco is the only thing I connect with Flitwick! We used to all be dragged there when I was little as it was the only big one for miles (and we lived no where near!)

Agree with others that it's fine - it's been a few years since I've been but don't remember it feeling unsafe, just that there's not much there. I'd prefer it to Luton and if the train link is important it'll be more convenient than Ampthill.

Much nicer places are available. Leighton Buzzard for starters. Any village to the west of MK. Grammar schools in Bucks if you are interested. Tring is lovely and has a station a bit out of town.

Milton Keynes has much better train links to London and Manchester. Lots of nice villages in MK. Big selection of housing from old to new. Flitwick isn’t great.

Adi41 · 20/10/2022 22:01

@Frolie Thanks replying ,I m already searching that area,problem is my budget, and yes I like MK,is nice city ,a new city to be honest but too many counci areas,but .....is still a nice city I realy like it

@Frolie
If you are from MK do you have any idea about this area called Neath Hill?
Thx

Neath Hill is one of the oldest estates it’s very close to the central shopping area. These tend not to be the nicest or safest of estates. That said it’s not one I know very well.
What is important to you? Schools? Commute? Amenities very near by?
Have you looked and some of the larger villages between mk, Bedford one Flitwick? We live in this area and really like it. House prices are reasonable.

WhatHappenedToYoyos · 20/10/2022 22:20

Lived in Flitwick and agree with the comment that said it's a big Tesco with houses. I'd not choose to pay the Flitwick prices to live there again, however I don't need train links to London for my work. We moved to a village nearer to Bedford and it's much, much nicer with a countryside feel but only 15 mins from Milton Keynes shopping or the kid's sports clubs in Bedford etc. I suppose it depends what type of place you want to be in?

Schools are ok, not great and not awful. They're moving from the 3 tier system (lower, middle and upper) to a 2 tier (primary and secondary) system in the next few years so by the time your DC is in school things will have changed/be in motion most likely.

If you can afford Ampthill or Maulden they would be better options but you're further from the train station so it's probably dependent a lot on how much you need the train. I will say there are plenty of side roads to park for free all day near Flitwick station if you did fancy a different village but need the station daily.

It’s not the best area tbh.

All the nicer parts of MK are a little way out of the centre. The older areas which are more uniform in layout tend to be less nice than the newer grid squares which tend to be less rigid in their design.

If you need to be close to the station there are lots of nice areas on the west side of the city. Loughton and Furzton are nice and any of the Shenleys.

Happy to send you a map of areas to avoid - it sounds mean, as I know there are nice roads in some of those estates, but as a whole I’d avoid anywhere in walking distance of the shopping centre!

mammymums · 20/10/2022 22:31

@Adi41 I live in Neath hill. I absolutely love living here. Close to the city centre. 3 mins drive or 18 mins walk. My son attends grammar school in Aylesbury,his bus collects him 3 mins away. Like other estates in milton Keynes, there are good and bad areas. I'm fortunate to live in a good area of Neath Hill, house prices averaging 550k. You will definitely not struggle to sell if you needed to. Houses sell quickly here

Frolie · 21/10/2022 07:58

Neath Hill is very close to the lovely Grand Union canal with some nice walks. The older estates are better because the plot sizes are larger with bigger gardens etc… Willen is very nice and highly regarded. Giffard Park, Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford all nice.

Frolie · 21/10/2022 08:02

Woughton on the Green and The Woolstones very nice too, they’re the other side of Willen Lake. There are of course areas to avoid like any City. Feel free to DM me and I’m happy to share my thoughts. Depending on budget etc you can get some lovely houses.

the rail links are brilliant. You can be in Euston in 30 mins and the trains are really regular.
