Easiest, cheapest and prettiest thing to put on stairs instead of carpet?

Hi.

We have an old ugly carpet on the stairs in our hallway and we're looking into replacing it with something else.

I'm not quite sure what it looks like underneath. Maybe we could just strip the carpet, sand the stairs and paint them?

We could also get a runner, but we were also thinking about LVT.

Has anyone got LVT on the stairs and could you share a picture?

How much was it to have it installed?

TIA

We used to have polished stained wood stair but they were lethal, slippery and I had them carpeted.
I imagine lino or similar would be equally slippery.

The easiest and cheapest would be to remove carpet, fill holes, sand and paint. You could add stair carpet pads? Or get a super cheap off it that is just wide enough for the stairs and just do the tops?

Carpet if you can - tufted not looped for the least slippy. We had a house with no carpets and made an exception for the stairs for safety and noise

seagrass or coir are terrible for sloppiness..

Carpet is best, because polished steps or other coverings are slippery.

I don’t like carpet much, and have none in any of my rooms but put some funky carpet on the stairs.
