i’m wondering if anyone can advise me!

so we had an extension built in march… told insurance policy etc no problem… got a new policy in august with a different company … all structural work had been done well before this just put on policy we’d have an extension!

anyway, we live in a bungalow we decided to build a kitchen in our extension to make our home life better that meant plumber & electrician moving some pipes etc & popping in some extra sockets etc i checked policy .. nothing to update as wasn’t under building change…

we are due to remove the other kitchen & it be a bedroom… says in policy let them know if adding extra bedroom so i have ..

they are now saying i’ve breached my contract as i’ve had building work done & not let them know?? i said no building work was done well before then i have invoice with proof etc they said my insurance could be cancelled & void & i hsve to provide them with contractors insurance & work done!!

im so confused! i don’t want them to cancel i’ll find it so hard to get insurance in future im worried sick & im sure i’ve not breached contract with what we’ve had done!

Who is your insurer? We had very similar happen to us... rang up on the day work on out house began to let the insurance company know (admittedly too last minute!) - they "cancelled" our policy! We had a very stressful day with no roof and no insurance!

But we easily got a policy with the Post Office who were totally happy to cover us.

Also it is not a cancelled policy (which had stressed me out too), you've done nothing wrong it's just that your current insurer can no longer insure you so the policy has been terminated. I confirmed this with the Post Office. The use of the word "cancelled" is ridiculously unclear.
