I’d be grateful for some advice please.

If the title deeds for a property is changed from joint ownership to sole ownership due to divorce, how long would you expect this to take?

We’re waiting for this process to be carried out by the vendor’s solicitor. Still waiting several months on…

of course our potential mortgage payments will be significantly higher 😫

My solicitor could not give me a date, just said it would/could take several months. (This was in early September)

Land registry is taking months at the moment. Can't really give an estimate.

starlingsintheslipstream · 12/10/2022 21:48

There are significant delays at present (maybe 3 months for even the simplest applications, much longer for others) but you can request they expedite if you are likely to suffer hardship. Probably best off coming from the vendor's solicitors but buyers can also request this. In which case it could be down to 10 days or fewer if there are no issues with the application.

I had to wait 17 months for a change in registration 🙄

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/10/2022 21:48

I bought in November ‘21, and it changed in October ‘22.

PropertyUndecided · 12/10/2022 22:15

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.
@starlingsintheslipstream, Good shout. I’ll ask the vendor if he’s willing to ask for the request be expedited.
If he’s unwilling, we’ll have a go ourselves, if he doesn’t mind.
@IamSamantha , I hope it doesn’t take 17th this 😕
Wish me luck!

I mailed an update to the Land Registry in late December 2020 and it was updated in late March 2021.

Huge delays at the moment, and also lots of mistakes

PauliesWalnuts · 12/10/2022 22:24

We were told in a meeting last week that they are currently running 9 months behind (civil service meeting).

Sillybeagle · 13/10/2022 10:09

This has reminded me to give them a chase! Purchase of our property completed April 2021, deeds promised for the following March (2022) so we were aware of huge delays but then chased again and they promised July-nothing, September-nothing and now we’re in October, 18 months so far!

Bootsandcat · 13/10/2022 10:10

Months and months atm unfortunately

PropertyUndecided · 28/11/2022 00:18

Just thought I’d come back and update!
Following @starlingsintheslipstream ’s advice, I put on a request to expedite the change and voila! It’s done!

Thanks!

Now, fingers crossed that the rest of the process goes along smoothly.

We had the length of lease on our property extended in January 2021 and we are still waiting two years later. Land Registry have confirmed the changes are in the queue and will only expedite it if we were to sell, but we’d have to provide proof of an offer to buy as evidence.
