Anywhere with 3/4 bed houses under £230K in England/Wales?

Heyho321 · 09/10/2022 18:35

(name changed)

Can anyone recommend a nice area anywhere in Wales or England - no more north than Leeds on a map - which have houses (with garden and parking) up for sale for 230K or less?

Ideally with good schools in the area and some green spaces/parks close enough to walk to.

Calderdale, Kirklees, Oldham/Burnley/Rochdale. Loads of places

Lots in south Wales near beaches or a country park

I find Wakefield town centre really depessing these days @tirednewmumm. I used to work in Wakefield and am so sad that The Ridings is just a shadow of its former self. Even the flagship stores - Boots and M & S are depressing compared to Barnsley town centre.

Loads of places in the North West! Have a look at Horwich in Bolton, right on the edge of Rivington which is beautiful for walking/hiking, decent schools, has its own high street with nice cafes/restaurants/pubs/shops and a train station which goes direct to Manchester in 20 mins, 3 bed houses for £200k.

Few of the towns around Peterborough as well as Peterborough itself.

Sawtry
Whittlesey
March
Yaxley
Eye
Thorney
Crowland

Some need a bit of work and updating, a few have the 3rd or 4th bedroom as a tiny box. But there's a few decent one's in the mix.

Blackwood, Caerphilly Borough. Nice area.

I've lived all over OP, but for a tight budget like this I would recommend Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire- a very large village . A mix of ex mining houses and some very big houses too- all on the edge of Sherwood Forest- great if you have kids . Tons to do in the area and it has quite a lot of cafes and pubs etc . Quick into Mansfield if you need a bigger shop (not my favourite place- it's my original home town but it's ok- not awful) or into Nottingham too

Here's a couple I thought looked quite nice in your criteria

East Midlands

Plenty in Suffolk.

Bispham, Cleveleys and St Annes near Blackpool. Bispham is next to the sea relatively quiet and respectable working-class trades sort of people who look after their homes and neighbourhood. My sister lives in Wrea Green so I know the area well and may move oop North at some point.

There are 559 houses on right move with at least 3 bedrooms and up to £230k within 10 miles of Hull city centre.

gogohmm · 09/10/2022 20:25

In summary many places outside of the se, avoiding touristy places and those with east commutes to London are within your budget. What region would suit you, do you have friends or relatives you need good transport links to?

Even where I live within a few miles inland the prices drop significantly

Isleoftights · 09/10/2022 21:30

Hull

CaptainBarbosa · 09/10/2022 21:38

I'd say anywhere outside of Cardiff in Wales for that OP.

You can get some lovely houses in coastal towns/cities or go further inland to the countryside. Whatever you fancy.

West Yorkshire- Bingley/Bradford- Bradford is the City of Culture and beginning to bloom. Beautiful homes cheap as chips which won't last long.

Newark.

TheNoonBell · 10/10/2022 12:56

Telford, 230k gets you quite a bit.

East Midlands again here - Derbyshire /Nottinghamshire border.

BlueMongoose · 11/10/2022 19:36

North Lancs, East or West, you get a lot of bangs for your buck and great scenery if you choose carefully. But that's North of Leeds, for the most part. Why the limit? I ask because if it is to do with travelling to family/job, up here it's a lot more important how close you are to the motorways you may want to use than exactly how far N,S, E or W you are. From here in NE Lancs, the M65 and M6 are easy, but if I need the M62, it's a long way round via M-way, and cross country takes a LONG time, miles and miles of 30mph limits and road junctions. So getting to the West Midlands or Wales is fast, faster than from Leeds or even some places S of Leeds, but to the East Midlands, it's very slow.

somebody2lava · 11/10/2022 19:50

West Lancashire/Skem /Wigan/Sthelens could get you a decent house for £200k
