Rent or stay?

Hi all,

We accepted an offer on our house a few months ago and all checks etc are going well. The issue is we haven’t found anywhere we like! There is a development being built but no knowledge of prices etc yet.

lots of homes round here are being reduced and I think if we don’t sell to our current buyer (who wants to move in asap and isn’t keen to wait) I’m not sure we will sell or if we do won’t get the same price.

Is it worth going into rented? Or is that just more stress?

We have gone into rented - we had to, as our move was 200 miles and had to be there by a certain date for work.

It'll very much depend on the rental market in your area. We found it very very competitive for family houses, have ended up renting a more expensive place than we wanted to as nothing else was available and for longer than we intended. We had wanted a break clause in the tenancy agreement after six months, but at the time no letting agent would consider anything less than a 12 month contract. As it is, it took a while to find somewhere to buy, getting through conveyancing took months and we're going to do renovation work before moving in so will be well past a year on the tenancy!

It has worked well in that it meant we got to know the area - have bought in an area we wouldn't have considered otherwise. It meant we were chain-free so in a good position when a house we wanted did come up.

That’s really useful, thank you.

we hope to buy nearby but our rental market is as you describe snd we also wished to have a break clause etc.

I'm glad it’s worked out well for you
