Was helping DD with history today about famous renaissance female figures came across a painting of this castle and Google image search brought us to this site.

How exciting that you can buy a something that was painted in the renaissance era!!!

Anyone else found anything like this?

Hmmm well my house which is listed was built in the early 1600s and some 0pd paintings and even postcards exist. I can’t say I find it very exciting to be honest.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 25/09/2022 20:16

@Kingharoldshairstyle you know the sound you get when a balloon has a slow leak and you squish it and it goes pffffffffffff. That's what your post sounds like.

OP I can't open the link for some reason but the very idea of living somewhere like that is ridiculously romantic and amazing. I'd love to be able to renovate it and bring it back to life.

I've watched enough of Escape to the Chateau, though, to know that it's probs infested with termites and has no doubt had terrifying things happen there during the revolution.

It is certainly more exciting than my 1930s semi though!

Kingharoldshairstyle · 25/09/2022 20:36

Well,ok 😂 but i can’t lie and honestly there’s thousands if not millions of properties globally built in this period. It’s really not uncommon, that’s my point.

I dunno maybe you and the op drive around the uk getting all excited about the very many 17th century houses . Each to their own.

Quartz2208 · 25/09/2022 20:40

We have houses yes but not castles there is a difference and the history on this one does seem good

But what are you actually buying?

Kingharoldshairstyle · 25/09/2022 20:56

We have plenty castles for sale!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/09/2022 21:01

@Kingharoldshairstyle this place was already 400-500 years old when your place was built!

Quartz2208 · 25/09/2022 21:06

@Kingharoldshairstyle Why are you so keen to dampen the OPs spirit about finding something linked to Eleanor of Aquitaine!

Plus the French one is far more affordable!

As an aside yes I do quite like looking at all the thatched cottages and thinking about their history and who was there. Pubs are particularly fascinating as well as they are often some of the oldest buildings and often have history.

Very different from the 20th Century houses most of us live in. Your house equally sounds interesting if it is 16th Century as well

Berycold · 25/09/2022 21:09

I love escape to the Chateau and Chateau DIY but I didn’t find that castle well very appealing tbh. But, if I were 40 years younger I’d be off to buy a chateau asap. For now and ever, I’ll just dream.

HappyPeach · 25/09/2022 21:13

I can't believe how cheap it is. Why is it you can pick up property so cheaply in France? That said, I echo pp, just looking at those footings in water & I'm seeing major ££££££ for upkeep. & for the person who said 'no biggie', can you imagine how funny rightmove would be if it said 'House/bungalow/flat/castle?...Grin

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/09/2022 21:16

Here is a photo for those that can't open the link.

Yes I get excited about 17th century houses too.

I would love to own a castle in reality I know it would be a money pit and freezing in the winter!

I also get excited for old buildings generally not just ones that you can buy.
It always amazes me when I go along Cornmarket street in Oxford this building pre-dates the battle of Hastings

I LOVE it! Wish we had a floor plan...

DuesToTheDirt · 25/09/2022 21:44

What a strange place. Not what I was expecting.

Sickoffamilydrama · 25/09/2022 21:51

I've now fallen down an Internet rabbit hole look at this.

This website has a few interesting properties no castles though 😔 inigo.com/all-homes
