Window and door quotes recently

Hello!
Just wondering if anyone has had any quotes for double/triple glazing recently?

We’re in SE London, desperately need new windows and doors, ours are currently 30+ years old.

So far have had Everest come in at 13K and have got Safestyle coming tomorrow - but they quoted back in Jan for 10k ish (eventually!)
This is for 7 windows (standard, nothing fancy) a composite front door and UPVC back door.

If anyone has had quotes recently and could let me know your thoughts I would hugely appreciate it! Trying to get hold of a couple of local firms too but it’s been tricky. I can’t stand the hard sales tactics these big firms have!

Hello, we are in Wales, and I had two quotes, one was for 7 double glazed crittel windows, varying sizes, which was £22k, and the second was for 13 windows (the same 7 plus extras) and a door, triple glazed, wooden with aluminium cladding on the outside, which is about £15k. Happy to answer any other questions if that helps.

Ramsd · 25/09/2022 20:29

Thank you! That’s really helpful. We’ve got three more quotes next week so let’s see how it goes - really appreciate your reply!

Get a local fitter and don't touch the chains. We had six new windows earlier this year, one a big bay, acoustic glass and coloured outside / white inside for a little under £6k.

South east, not London.

lem0njelly · 25/09/2022 20:54

Just had my front door (composite, with frame with glass panel) for £1800 , north Wales. Appreciate not full house but was also quoted £1400 for sliding patio doors, if this is any help. Local company not big chain.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 26/09/2022 09:54

Definitely a local fitter. I had 12 UPVC sash windows and a set of crittal style french doors fitted last hear for just shy of 10k.

mondaytosunday · 26/09/2022 10:06

I live in sw London Victorian terrace and to replace my five windows at the front will cost about £10-12k for composite double glazed sash windows. The door would cost about £2500 and up for good quality composite.

nannybeach · 26/09/2022 10:08

Don't use a chain,go local get recommendations friends, and look up online reviews about Everest!!!!

Pootles34 · 26/09/2022 10:11

Yes I was just coming here to say exactly the same, don't touch the chains, use someone local. Ask on your local fb group.

StillNotWarm · 26/09/2022 10:15

Find a local fitter.
New front door was twice the price with the big guys as a local one. And he has said he can sort the handle like we want rather than pulling a sucky face and saying noone has handles like that any more, or even that the solution we want doesn't exist (it does, it's on our old front door at the old house)

tablep · 26/09/2022 10:16

Avoid Everest & other chains, way more expensive

onmywayamarillo · 26/09/2022 10:21

Totally agree with not using safe style or Everest! Appalling reviews

We went with a large but local company.

3,500 for patio doors, x2 kitchen windows and a bathroom window including new lintels

2k for 2 bedroom acoustic glass windows in a fake wood upvc style.

Front door was German engineered wooden and cost a bomb! 4K

Ramsd · 26/09/2022 19:40

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I’ve got a local firm coming tomorrow to quote. Cancelled Safe Style for this evening!

What I want to know is, how are these companies doctoring their Trustpilot reviews? Everest has got amazing reviews and a really high score (which is why I called them). Are they all fake? Thought I could trust Trustpilot! Silly me

I found when I posted negative reviews like check-a- trade, they just weren't posted. Had solar installation this year, every negative post, was accused of lying or wanting reduction. I didn't even bother to post ...we had so many rows with them.

AssumethePerpendicular · 26/09/2022 22:46

Just had 8 windows fitted, high end double glazing with thermal glass. 2 triples, 3 doubles and 3 singles with textured glass. Was around £5k and the fitters left no mess at all and no touching up to paintwork needed. This was a local firm in the south, ‘which’ registered trader.

Sailorchick14 · 26/09/2022 22:47

When we last got windows Everest were by far the most expensive. Safestyle salesman are horrendous and I would never use them.

Local independent companies have always been the best option

WelshNerd · 26/09/2022 22:59

We had a quote for a composite door from safe style earlier this year. They could do it for £1700 but their first offer was £3500! Rip off merchants

Wasabiprawns · 26/09/2022 23:00

I'm going through this process now. Currently have the original Edwardian single glazed timber windows with astragal bars. I have been looking at the flush timber look style and had several quotes for 16 windows-
Everest 16k,
local firm for TimberLook brand 17k,
2 diifferent small local firms for Residence 9 windows at 24k and 15k!
2 different local firms for Evolution brand windows at 28k and £24k

So some big differences for the sand windows!

Wasabiprawns · 26/09/2022 23:01

Forgot to say I'm in the south, Guildford area and all units will be double glazed

20questions · 27/09/2022 00:23

@mondaytosunday Would you mind giving me the name of the window company please as I need quotes for very similar to your work - original Edwardian single glazed windows, and I'm also in London...
Thank you

TheYear2000 · 26/11/2023 19:18

@20questions @Wasabiprawns @mondaytosunday
Would be very interested to know which window suppliers you went with in the end? Apologies for resurrecting an old thread!

Wasabiprawns · 26/11/2023 19:45

Beau vista windows in fleet, got the residence 9 windows, they had a week free and gave me a really good price, 8k less than any other quotes. They said they had a week free of work. Did a great job and makes such a difference with condensation and noise. Absolutely no regrets. They look fab.

Wasabiprawns · 26/11/2023 19:47

They told me after that they would have done evolution windows at a similar price

TheYear2000 · 26/11/2023 19:55

Thank you @Wasabiprawns that's really helpful and great to hear you are so happy with your windows. It's such a big purchase/decision!
